THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT

From ghoulies and ghosties
And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
Good Lord, deliver us!

(traditional Scottish prayer)

Well, that didn't work here.

I was rudely awakened from my sleep last night by a great crashing sound. By time I actually came to, it occurred to me that the sound may have happened inside our house.

An unexpected visitor, perhaps?

NO; doors were all secure.

It was just the shelving in the laundry area, literally "off the wall." A few screws loose. (But not in my head this time!)

Sadly, so very typical of the quality of workmanship we suffered through after the fire in our house about a year ago.

Fortunately, not much got spilled. Only a bit of furniture oil, and it stayed on top of the washer. There was a whole bottle of chlorine bleach, which stayed intact -- thereby saving both the new flooring we had installed and G3's sanity.

Getting the shelves back up is going to be the challenge. One extra task I desperately didn't need. Let's see -- drill, anchors, good screws, extra bar to attach to the wall for holding up the shelving. I guess I'm ready -- I guess. Maybe tomorrow. Or. . . .

I take it you didn't put them up in the first place? When it comes to shelves for heavy loads, overkill in installation is my byword. Hope it goes well for you.
And only the Scots could pray such a prayer seriously.

...or maybe you didn't really need that shell so much after all!

Oh, I thought it was a ghost story!

® Thanks Janine -- I can use all the moral support I can get.

® BF: Let's see. Workmen screw support bars off the wall. Paint the wall, Screw the support bars back onto the wall, using the same old plastic anchors. Why pull out the old anchors and put in new ones when you can save some time and a few cents. Right?

® Joanne: I'm not particularly partial to those shelves. But G3 is. VERY MUCH SO. So once I finish the op-ed newspaper piece on which I'm working (for pay, even!), I'll defer to madame's wishes and rebuild. (As if I had any choice!)

® Natsy: Sorry to have disappointed you. Truth be told, a situation more ghastly than ghostly. What a mess -- and needing to find a temporary location for everything. Gr@#$%^&*!rrr.

Could you possibly reattach those shelves into studs?

I'm like G3. I need my shelf in the laundry room, otherwise it's on the floor where I might kick it, or spill it. Perhaps you can call a handyman? handywoman?

hi there, bear.

Nothing like hearing a crash in the middle of the night to wake you up sober! glad it was not more serious. I got a house that is 50+ years old and things are always tearing up, falling down, and crumblin'... and then I go-a-grumblin' ...

by the way, great playlist!

Hi Bear:

Thank you for stopping by today. I really enjoyed your comment. I did this back three years ago when I was first diagnosed so I am kinda reviewing it now, scaring myself that I will have to get chemo again, well I know I will but when?

I would have totally shit myself if I had heard a long bang in the house. Yikes.
