THIS IS THE WEEK THAT WAS

Today is Sunday, a restful day. Actually the Bear's whole week is often restful. But it has been particularly good.

First, autumn is in the air. Definitely. We've had an evening of frost, though it didn't bother the pumpkins. (We got those in the afternoon before the frost.)

But the leaves are changing. As more and more of them hit the ground,

the bright autumn colours

become much more dull.

Dr. Ron Banks, from Duke University and Duke Medical School (Durum, North Carolina) was up and did a couple of presentations related to medical research, and the place of animals in it. One of the presentations was to the university faculty; the other, at the main public library, for the community. Both were reasonably attended.

On Thursday, J's nephew and his wife came for a visit, bringing their four week old son with them.

Sleepy Bear; sleepy baby

It was not only a chance for us to see them, but for our son and his kids to visit with their cousins.

On Saturday, Bear celebrated another birthday (his 66th), our team won in the Canadian Football League game, and our daughter brought a birthday cake when she came to see the game with us. Bear also got a ton of birthday greetings from friends via Facebook; all much appreciated.

Bear thinks that was a good week.

Awww what a lovely photo bear. I am so happy that you had such a good week. Bear sounds much contented now!
Love Di ♥

® Alice Lynn Alfred: Thanks. Bear's visage doesn't normally appear in the blog, lest it destroy something. But since I was almost asleep, I didn't think things would be hurt much.

Rob-bear said...

® Diana: Bear is feeling contented, and fairly pain free. As I trust you will be in short order.
Thanks for visiting.

A soft bear hug for the cub, lovely and very comforting. It's good to be able to put a face on Bear.

Rob...how exiting it is to put a face with your words. Thank you for sharing that with us!! Thank you so much. I love the restfulness of Bear and the precious 4-week old baby. Warms my heart. Yes, it does.
Regarding the change of season, may I add a hearty "Amen" to the fact that autumn is here. Yes!! Your photos are beautiful. I love the colors of the leaves (sorry that I leave the "u" out of "colors"....just American, I guess!)
Happy Happy to you, young bear. Sixty-six and holding... ?? :)) You look great!!
Your week sounds like it was a "beary" good week. Good on ya, my friend. Smiles and a special birthday hug from me to you.

® potsoc: Yup, great to cuddle up to the Cub. This is good, as long as the picture of Bear didn't scare you away (as it has some).

® Teacher's Pet: Thanks, Jacquie. That was pretty relaxing. As in both beautiful and relaxing.
As long as picture of Bear didn't terrify you, we'll be fine.
Yes, young. One is young until one is about 80. Thereafter, one is venerable. Works for Bears and Humans, too. Trust the Bear on this!

That is such an adorable photo, a cuddly bear and a grand-cub. For some reason, I'm ready for a snooze.

Hope next week is just as good.

Rob-bear said...

® Reforming Geek: Thanks. And I don't blame you one bit for feeling a little sleepy!

® Amanda: Thanks. I'm always reluctant to post Human pictures of myself; they wreck my Bear image.
But I am trying to learn to relax. So this was good.
BTW, I like your new pic.

Bon anniversaire, mon ami! Bear, the photo with you and tiny baby is precious. Thank you for sharing that one with us. You both look quite comfortable.

Genie

Rob-bear said...

® Genie: Thanks. And, yes, we were both very comfortable.

I understand the reluctance to post pictures. You aren't really Rob Bear, you are actually Jake Klinesasser in your plaid shirt, black suspenders and snow white beard (actually I never knew Snow White had a beard but I digress...)
You sound and look pretty happy, Old Bear. Glad you had a good birthday and a cub to cuddle with.

Lovely photo! It is good to see the face behind the blog sometimes.

Autumn is definitely here in the UK. The changes are more noticeable every day, which is nice because I love autumn.
The only problem is what comes next - once the leaves are off those trees they're gone for six months.

Rob-bear said...

® Blog Fodder: That's the problem with posting my non-urusine image. People don't know what to make of it. I think I'll stay with my Bear pix in the future, to avoid confusion. Or broken computers (the sometimes shattering effect of putting up my human image).
But cuddling the cub was just fine!
Thanks.

® Jean: Autumn in the UK sounds terribly like autumn on this side of the pond. I would as leaf have a short winter, but that doesn't usually happen. Thanks.
Is the weather much different in France?

Hilary said...

Awww happy birthday to you. What a lovely photo of you and the wee one. That sounds like a very nice week, indeed.

Jean said...

Bear, the weather is very different in France. Our little cottage is not in the south, where it's baking hot for a lot of the year, or in the north, where it's not much better than in England. It's in the middle. Spring arrives earlier, the summer is longer and people still have gardens full of flowers and tomatoes in the middle of October. The winter is shorter and with fewer grey and dreary days, although it does get cold.

In other words, it's perfect!!

Rob-bear said...

® Hilary: Thanks. It was a grand week, indeed. Things are getting better.

® Jean: Thanks for the weather report. It is helpful.
All I know is that France is located between Germany and the Atlantic, between the English Channel and Mediterranean Sea. I'm assuming it has a variety of climatic zones (as does Canada), but I wasn't sure where your Loire cottage fit into the scheme.

Finally, I get to see Bear, and you look just like I'd imagined. How peaceful you seem with baby on your chest.

Sounds like an excellent week! And that photo - picture perfect! Nothing better than cuddling a sleepy baby.

Awww, Happy belated Birthday!! What a great picture of you and the baby :) So sweet!

Rob-bear said...

® Gutsy Living: Thanks, Sonia. One of the things those of us in radio heard from time to time was, "You don't look like you sound."
And I'm looking for added ways to live more peacefully.

® Jacqueline: Relaxing with the baby was a good thing.
The picture was like most of the week — excellent. Thanks.

® Just Two Chicks: Thanks for the birthday wishes.
More fun than the picture was cuddling up and being photoed in the process.

Well, if that isn't one of the all-time best photos of an older relative (can't quite figure out the exact relation) and a baby, I just give up! Truly wonderful, and in conjunction with your delightful description of the week it made for an altogether wonderful post.

Happy belated birthday, Bear. I feel a bit grumpy because if we were Facebook friends I would have attended to more timely birthday wishes. Hrumph!

Rob-bear said...

® Lydia: Thanks for you delightful note. The little guy is my grand-nephew.

We live surrounded by trees and I have been picking up leaves for a few weeks now. No Indian summer this year. I love the photograph - it is great to see Bear's natural habitat with a baby Bear to cuddle.

Rob-bear said...

® Lins'lleisio: Shw mae! Thank you so much for having dropped by and left a note.
Having seen pictures of your place, I can just imagine all the trees, and the leaves.
It would be a grand place for a Bear, if there are any Bears left in Wales.

Hi Bear, I've been far away in the grip of apathy for over a week, but am back now, hopefully for awhile anyway.

You and the baby are so positively adorable! Happy Birthday!

® Towanda. Thanks for visiting.
I noticed you had been missing. In fact, I was organizing the St. Bernards, getting them ready to go find you. Fortunately, I won't have to send them out, this time. (But that also means no "Refreshmuts" coming your way.)
