WHEN IN DOUBT, . . . (3)

The day dawned grey and cold,
sunless,
hoar frosted trees barely visible
in the ice fog;
- 10°C, with a wind chill
almost double that.
"Socked in" as
the old tyme flyers would say.

By lunch time
Miss Sadie was vocally bored,
and insisted on playing
in the fresh winter air.

And so we did.

Her frozen toy
stung my hands.
Even Her Ladyship
found it cold in her mouth.
Undeterred,
she ran to wherever it landed,
and galloped it back —
a flowing keyboard
of black on white
in the frigid yard.

While overhead,
the gutter ravens,
having moved south for the winter,
cried to one another.

Now, Sadie calmly sleeps
in her favourite chair,
by the warm stove,
awaiting another run,
latter on, perhaps,
not knowing the forecast
is for freezing rain,
which will make everything
treacherous,
for travel,
or even play
in our sanctuary.

Miss Sadie looks so beautifully at peace lying there, the sleep of the innocent and ever optimistic, it's why I love dogs!

There's just something special about standards.

Ah yes, Canadian winters. We are a tough bunch though, aren't we? Freezing rain is my least favorite. The wind was biting here too, it feels like winter.

® TW: Dog-lovers are always such wise and observant contributors. Which is also why I have trouble viewing Sassy as the Wickedest Whippet. I think she's just adorable. And thoughtful, in terms of helping you lose weight.

® Nancy: Sadie is, indeed, well loved. Does she have me wrapped around her tail? I'd decline comment on that matter.
Hope you have a grand anniversary in Hawaii!

® lakeviewer: Being with Sadie is, indeed, a moving experience.
Hope you have a grand time this year-end.

® Diva: Standards are "the standard" when it comes to dogs. Without question.

® Bodhi Chicklet: Welcome to the Bear blog; so glad you dropped by. Please Bear with us!
Winters in Canada are "interesting." (I think that's the best way to describe it.) Having grown up in Toronto, I remember "Eastern" winters. Western winters are similar, with a bit less snow, more wind, and colder temperatures. This winter, however, you've been getting more of a western winter. Good luck!

Rob....Enjoy the weather. I know. I know. It is miserably cold there....BUT...I would trade you for a week (or two of it). We don't get to see the snow...or feel this cold air. Your Sadie looks soooo snuggly warm...and I hope that it warms up enough that you and Sadie will be able to play outside real soon.
Warmes hugs,
Jackie

Sadie is a beautiful dog. Like Lulu, that curly coat will keep her warm but I suspect that indoors is always best !!

I had no idea Miss Sadie was so grand and regal!

I have that same afghan. Bought it at JCPenney's when we were in Hernando.

Beau has a new responsibility now.

He's figured out I'm getting forgetful. I forgot to close the back door and the wind was blowing snow inside.

I heard Beau bark and when I went to look, he was standing "point" and staring at the hole where a door should be.

Just another service he offers.
