Trust our Government?

Question: When is a deal not a deal?
Answer: When you make it with the government.

The fuller answer to this can be found on my other blog, Bears Noting. It has to do with a deal negotiated, then broken, by the Saskatchewan government.
It raises questions I have asked before, about who governments really serve, and where people fit in the overall scheme of things.
And beyond that, it is the conservative Provincial government's  first step towards privatizing health care. As such, it is the beginning of the nightmare for the elderly and the chronically ill.

Will check it out. Can already sympathise with the sentiments. We are midst election fever here and I am underwhelmed with the lot of them. They are all so self serving.

Someone once said, "Power corrupts." It was true then; it is true now. Sadly, this is so. Will check out your other post! Hugs, Janine

®Reasons: I am regularly "underwhelmed" by politicians. (That's a great word, BTW: "underwhelmed"; so descriptive of the actions of our political leaders, in most cases.)

®Janine: You're quoting Lord Acton, of Britain. His comment was "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely"; it is in a letter dated 1887 to a British Anglican Bishop. Acton was Roman Catholic, but opposed the concept of papal infallibility and was troubled by the power of both pope and king (which was the context of that part of the letter). Unfortunately, his insight is true, in business, politics, and many other spheres of human endeavour. Sadly.

PLEASE NOTE:

I have revised the ending of this piece in light of further developments and further reflection.

Yes, you are sooo right Rob...I had forgotten the precise quote! Excellent! Just stopping in to see how you are! I've checked my dashboard to see if you've posted several times in the last several weeks, but decided it was time someone come see what was up around here! Missing you! Hugs, Janine

Bear has been "missing in action" on his own blogs, has dropped out entirely from facebook, but is very active at The Purple Coo http://www.purple.dreamhosters.com. Bear will be paying more attention here in a while; in the meantime, I've got some "real" writing to do (for money, even!!).

Hugs and kind thoughts much appreciated, and returned.
