Long fields and of barley and of rye,
That clothe the wold and meet the sky;
And through the fields the road runs by
√√To many-towered Camelot.
– Alfred, Lord Tennyson, "The Lady of Shalott"
Autumn has surely arrived. The barley is ripening; the trees' leaves are turning. The sky is clear and cloudless. The sun is bright and warm, but not too hot. A gentle breeze freshens the air. A glorious time of the year.
(This picture was taken at a spot about five minutes drive from our home.
The river, in the background, curves north from here,
and cuts through the middle of our many-towered city.)

Fab photos. Thanks for sharing them. A x
I remember that poem from way back when. Autumn is glorious isn't it?
Glorious hues. Enjoy.
® Thanks, Wipso. I hope to do this regularly.
® Reasons: Autumn is glorious, indeed. Did you have to memorize poems when you were in elementary school?
That poem was in one of my exams a couple of courses ago. I'd known it prior to sitting there anxious and worried and wouldn't you believe that my mind went blank during the exam. I still passed though.
Isn't is airy and spacious where you live?
® FF: There's something about that poem that I find so haunting, almost eerie. Loeena McKennitt sings it beautifully (an abridged version, of course). I have the CD, but there is live version on YouTube somewhere. And yes, living virtually next door to "long fields of barley and of rye" is a joy.
hey RobBear, how have you been?
I have been noticing the fog, that's when I know autumn is truly here! most leaves here are still green, some turning and falling though. I love a good crisp fall day.
Lovely photo. If only Cheshire looked like that. We seem to have been blessed with endless cloudy skies this year.
® Bella: Fall weather is great, eh? Last week, 31°C; this week, 13°C. No, that's not a mistake. Too early to hibernate, thought. Considering a back transplant in the meantime.
® Cheshire Wife: Would love to trade a bit of weather if I could. Haven't worked out the technology, yet. Glad you enjoyed the photo.
I LOVE Autumn...I LOVE Tennyson...this post is top notch!!!! You bring me big smiles this evening! Hugs, Janine
® Yes, Janine -- the words and picture really do fit. That's what I thought when I saw the scene -- had to go back to the house to get the camera. Glad it brought you some smiles.
Your landscape looks so different from mine. Where are all the palm trees? HAHAHA! I forgot you live in bear country. Beautiful!
® Sonia: Yes; all very pastoral and bucolic.
Aren't those trees the things the terrorists set up to kill troops in convoys? Oh,no; those are "bomb trees." (We Bears do make mistakes with human language sometimes.)
Is all well, Rob? Just stopping by to see my friend!! Have a wonderful weekend!!! Hugs, Janine
Hello Rob-bear,
I love the Autumn too, one of my favourite seasons of the year.
Thank you for sharing that wonderful Poem with us, adore Tennyson.
Thank you kindly Bear for the ADVERSITY Picture, how very sweet of you.
Thanks for writing friends.
S&S: The Bear is not doing very well, I'm afraid. Already into mental hibernation. Hope you're doing well.
Cailla: I love Tennyson, particularly something about "The Lady of Shalott." Glad you liked the picture. Have a PM for you at Cowart's.
One of my favourite poems Rob bear, and the photo fits it perfectly.
