DOG (A-Z Challenge)

This is Sadie. A Standard Poodle. Fifty pounds (bigger than usual).

Born in June of 2009, She came to live with us in August that year.

She was my walking buddy, who helped me to learn to play again.

Kind, and gentle, trusting, and very relaxed.

She lived with us until March of this year. She moved to a new home because I was too ill to look after her. She deserved better than what I could give her, do with her, do for her. In her new home, she has a sister, another Standard Poodle, about her size but several years older. The two of them have great fun together, I'm told.

Which is how it should be.

But I still miss her.

Even though you know it is for her best I am sure you will be missing her and she you. I am sorry you are unable to run and play with her, but I'm sure she is thankful for all the good times you had together.
Dogs are very special friends, much more so than cats and you know my history with cats!

® Diva: Sorry for the sadness. But truth be told, I still have a lot of that, too.

® Brenda Susan: I'm pretty sure Sadie is happy. And I am thankful for the good times we had together, though they were far too few. I was looking forward to at least ten good years.

I love standard poodles, they are so beautiful and yet so noble looking and very sweet. You one looks lovely, as you say she will be happy with the company but you must miss her so.

Sad. I can’t imagine the wrench of giving up my dog. You must have a truly loving soul that you put Sadie's happiness above your own. You must be missing her very much, but she does at least sound happy, which is all credit to you.

You are bound to miss her - it must have been a hard decision to give her up.
It was for your own good as well as hers and at least she is happy and in a loving family, so it was for the best.

So sorry, Bearet. :(

I had to give up a very much loved dog many, many years ago due to a crazed neighbor; very unlike your situation but to this day, I miss her so much.

In your case, it was the right thing to do, for Sadie. But that doesn't lessen the pain.

My American friend in Belize also had a standard poodle. When her husband died, she decided to come back to the U.S., but had to leave her beautiful, devoted dog in Belize. Her dog was used to running along the beach and being free all day to roam wherever, and my friend could not bring her to a city. Now her dog is happy with another family.

Oh, I understand this more than you know, Rob=Bear.

A few years ago, we were faced with the horrible prospect of having to put our two beloved terriers down. I still can't talk about it without crying. I know we did the "right" thing, but it really was heartbreaking for both of us. Sometimes love really does require a huge sacrifice, and you did do the right thing. Still, my heart goes out to you.

I am firmly convinced that the Lord will have all of our favorite pets meet us in Heaven, and we will be able to spend eternity together. I think that's one of the things he has prepared for those who love Him. He's got all sorts of wonderful things perpared for us, and it wouldn't surprise me (but would delight me) if such were the case with our pets. God is good, and I suspect you will be reunited with Sadie someday. That is my fondest hope.

XO,

Sheila :-)

Yes,you do. It was a hard decision and you will miss her because you loved her. But you know what they say, "if you love them, let them go!"

Glad to see you around, Bear.

I just wish they could understand ...

If the time comes when it gets that bad for me...and Beau...it will break my heart too.

Glad Sadie is happy but wish the best for you also.

Dogs are great. I almost did my post about dogs because I got to spend the day with my mom's Future Leader Dog Puppy.

I'm sorry to hear that Sadie can't be with you. Dogs are wonderful friends. I miss my two big ol' yellow labs, 100+ pounds. They've both gone to doggy heaven.

I bet you do miss her. And you may not think so, but she certainly misses you in her own doggie way.
I can't imagine what we'd do without our dog.
So sorry!

Awwhhh but if it is the right thing to do... My sister has a standard Poodle... He is sooo adorable but i worry about him, he needs so much more attention than he gets... They are such lovable souls... It's always important to do the right thing by animals i think, they are so reliant on us doing that... i have still not been brave enough to get a dog although i would dearly love one... x

Ohhh, I'm so sorry - both for having to give your dog away and for how you are feeling. I hope things change for the better very soon.

Thanks, friends, for all your kind thoughts. Were she here, she'd be on the floor beside my desk, waiting for me to finish up and then go outside with her.

Special note to Quintessential Magpie, Mary, and Carrie. Thank you for venturing over to the Bear's blog. Hope you'll be back.

Thanks for telling me about Sadie, Rob. I'm so glad that she's still with us as in the land of the living, but sad that you can't enjoy her company.

Your generosity in giving Sadie a better quality of life elsewhere is outstanding.

I thought about the Duchess the other day and hoped that she is happy in her new home. I know that she misses you but you loved her enough to let her go. You are a brave and loving bear.

Bises,
Genie

® Elizabeth and Genie: Thank you both for your kind thoughts and words.

What a sad thing to have to give up Sadie. It is wonderful that she has a new home with a dog companion she gets along with, but I cannot imagine having to give up my pets - so my heart breaks for you.

Bonbon is our chocolate Standard Poodle, and she will be ten this month. We rescued Abby, our Old English Sheepdog, when she was seven - and she is ten now. Abby's story is really something, having lost two prior homes - the last one because her owner was transferred to Japan for his job.

May you have sweet dreams of being at play with Sadie. I am sure she dreams that about you.

Rob-bear said...

® Lydia: Thanks. And wonderful of you to have rescued Abby!

Hi Bear.!

You have given Miss Sadie all the love and care you could possibly give her. I am sure you will miss her but so pleased to hear she will have another Poodle to keep her company and gone to another loving home.

Hold onto those precious memories dear Bear.
