"HEY, SADIE . . .

. . . whats all this white stuff on the ground?"

"I dunno, Nuala; tastes kinda like water, but it's cold."

"Sure is slippery, too, Sadie!"

Such was our puppies introduction to snow. Environment Canada had been saying for several days we might get a few snow flurries on Thursday, When I was out with the puppies at noon, I think I counted four snow flakes -- almost too small to see. "Yeah," I figured, "that's the snow we were promised." But when I woke up following my afternoon nap, we had a few more flakes than I had imagined.

That didn't stop the puppies from chasing round and playing in it, and having a dandy time.

Although the whole experience caused Sadie to stop for a moment and try to figure out exactly what was happening in her world.

Meanwhile Environment Canada is promising more of the same today, with temperatures of -2°C (wind chills as low as -9°C). It's a bit cool for me, but the puppies are wearing their fur coats, so I don't know that it makes a whole lot of difference to them.

But any crops that haven't been harvested ae going to take a real beating from this.

Oh, yes; I have to get out and shovel the sidewalks, too.

It's only October! Is this snow early? Colorado opened its skying runs in October, earlier than ever. I'm glad the pups enjoyed it.

Thanks for writing, folks.

® Reasons: There was more snow overnight. And the wind is blowing, giving us a wind chill of -15°C (close to 0°F). So much for melting! ;)

® Chris: They're even cold. We gave them a chance to play outside, and they came right back in.

® FF and Wipso: All the world's a place to explore. Tis the nature of puppies. They did have a lot of fun yesterday. Today, however, . . .

® Lakeviewer: Snow's a couple of weeks earlier than what we might normally expect, but not really all that unusual. But in this time of environmental change, what's "normal"? Yes they had fun with it, yesterday. Today, I don't even want to go out, so I can hardly blame them!

Your twins must be having a fine time discovering what snow is.

All the same, I do hope that October turns back to normal temps soon, providing you some beautiful Indian summer weather.

Gosh, it's not even Halloween yet.

xo

® Frances: I'm afraid that's a fairly vain hope, despite your best wishes. Temperatures are expected to be below normal -- well below normal for much of the next two weeks. As I think I've already said, we don't usually see snow until Hallowe'en. Sigh! Groan! The twins are, however, making the best of this -- though they don't seem to want to stay outside for as long as they did before. Fancy that!

EEEk! snow, I hate the stuff, mainly because we get slushy wet stuff here, not the powdery kind, and it is miserable, especially when it freezes on the bits the kids have skated on. Am still in snow shock from last January. That said, love the photo's - love the pups, and love the blog!

® Irish Eyes: Thanks for coming for a visit.

We get the sticky stuff here, too. If we don't clean the dogs' paws well when they come, there will be little puddles of water all over the floor, when the snow melts. Welcome to winter in Western Canada! ;)

Sorry about the snow and shoveling...for your sake...that's no fun...especially so early in the season...but the pups look delighted...and what joy to see them frolicking!!! I love them!!! All the best to you, my friend!!! Hugs, Janine

® Thanks for your note, Janine. Strangely, at the front of the house all I had to use was a broom -- the snowfall was much more extensive in the back than in the front. But it was enough for the puppies to have fun.

Strange thing, though, When we call them to come in, they come much more quickly now. ;)

Hi Rob-bear.!

Oh absolutely brilliant, love the pics of Sadie and Nuala playing in the snow. I used to have a Springer that loved the snow.

Those Pups are getting bigger by the minute Rob-bear, lovely they have each other to play with, and of course Bears to give them lots of cuddles.

Stay warm, sounds pretty cold where you are Bear, even so I do love the snow.
