WALKING THROUGH THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Sigh.

Did you ever wake up in the middle of the night, and then not be able to get back to sleep? I came out of hibernation because the weather felt like spring. Only it's not spring; it's still the dead of winter. We'll have -20C weather in a few days. But today, things are melting, while the snow is coming down.

Anyhow, Sadie convinced me that we should go for a walk through the neighbourhood, on our normal path. (She thinks that, because she's a Duchess, she should be able to command property in the colony; I keep telling her that's not the way it works here, but she pays no attention.) Anyhow, your can read her version of events on her blog, is your follow the link (in green).

Well, we made it home safely, having encountered nobody else on our walk. She's snoozing by the gas stove; I'm going to crawl into bed, and see if that gets me into a better frame of mind for hibernating.

Really, living among Humans is a challenge. Especially with a dog who thinks she's a Duchess.

But what would you do without her? She keeps you going, all seasons.

® rosaria: Her Ladyship really does keep me moving. Life would be very different without her.

Duchess, princess, queen of all the land, it's all the same to a standard poodle, who thinks she's human - no, better than human as she can see, smell and run faster.

We have one at home who rules the house and we wouldn't be without her.

My question Rob is, "Who walks the Duchess on the other days when you're hibernating?" Does she whine?

I am glad Ms. Sadie gets you out and about every once in awhile...thank you for the sweet comment on my niece...you are right..the numbers add up to a very small but nice total ! When hibernation time is over..no more excuses!

I often read a lovely book about a little bear called 'When will it be Spring?' to my little ones, your blog reminds me of this lovely little bear, he just couldn't wait for spring and kept waking up, and waking up his mother bear, and then when spring came, his mother found him fast asleep amongst the flowers...

MINUS 20 degrees???? Oh my goodness... No WAY would I stick my head out of my den, Bear!!!
That's just toooooo cold for words. As that day approaches, I hope you have plenty of firewood and food and water...and that you and Sadie have a warm respite from that frigid temperature. I enjoyed the walking about with you and Sadie as I clicked on your link.
Have a great week!
Smiles,
Jackie

I agree with Rosaria. Thank goodness for the Sadies of this world!

® Wise decisions, Jean. Standards are the standard by which others are judged.

® Sonia: Good question. Answer: the Phantom Walker. And Miss Sadie doesn't whine. (Ladies don't whine; you should know that!) She barks, indicating she expects attention. She only needs to do it once.

® afcg: While Sadie does get me out, I have to protect her from herself, sometimes. Travelling about the neighbourhood when it's -40 would be considered "cruel and unusual punishment."

® Posie: Thanks for the lovely story. I should try to hunt it down, or make up a reasonable facsimile thereof for the grandchildren.

® Jackie: I sleep in the den, with my summer's accumulation of fat to keep me warm and healthy. Miss Sadie lives in a fully insulated house, with central heating and an auxiliary gas stove. And she gets fresh food and water twice every day.

When things warm up, I start hunting for food all over again. Miss Sadie will still stay inside. Not that she's pampered, or anything like that.

® Jane: The aforementioned notwithstanding, she is a wonderful companion!

I am sure that it does you good to get out even if it is a bit nippy. You will appreciate Spring all the more when it arrives.

Rob bear, the book is called 'When will it be spring' and is written by Catherine Walters and published by Magi. It is a picture story book for younger readers, but I love it.

® CW: Sorry to be so long in replying. I didn't realize Bear had missed your comment before returning to hibernation.

® Posie: Thanks for the book title. I'll check our library; Bear would probably delight in reading to his grandchildren. Or having them read it to him.
