WAKE-UP CALL

Try to picture this in your mind.

Bear is sitting on his bed in a motel room. He is talking on the telephone.

"Hello, Front Desk? This is Bear in room 113. I'd like to leave a 'Wake-up Call' for mid-March."

And that's the way it is in cold and snowy Canada.

I guess! We're having early spring here. In fact, I will need to mow the grass this week. Of course, next week could be winter again.

Some people have figured out how to stay warm and cozy for a long time. March? Ouch!
How about a trip to warmer temps?

Poor old Bearet.

® Snowbrush: We are most certainly not having a early spring here. I still have my winter coat on, and don't intend to take it off any time soon.

® rosaria: Thank you for the suggestion. But Bear doesn't travel very well, so "a trip to warmer temps" is "not on" (if I understand that expression).

® Natalie: Bear is by no means poor. I think he has several pots of honey and boxes of salmon with him, in case he wakes up and needs a "snack" before going back to sleep. (He uses the word "snack" in a most imaginative way!)

If I did not have little one's or a job to go to, I would so be hibernating too!

Well it will be Spring before you know it.

Wendy said...

Yes, I will definitely be happy to picture that - such thoughts might help keep me cool in the 40+ degrees day we are having here!

Seems like a plan.

Dear Miss Sadie,
I do hope Bear provided you with nice juicy bones and lots of dog food before going into hibernation. He seems to have taken good care of himself but what about you?
Do call the SPCA if need be.
Paul

Well that's the way it feels in Southern Illinois too! Love Di ♥

Ah, sweet Bear stirs, if only momentarily. I hope that he is resting well and that Miss Sadie is keeping him company.

Bisous,
Genie

® Lori: Yes, I understand you have important responsibilities. Bear doesn't — at least not now. He used to — but that's another story.

® Nancy: Well, I suppose. It's -4C today, but will be back to -20C by the end of the week. Spring still seems a long way off.

Wendy: You're at 40+C, we're at -4C. A bit of a difference. But I wouldn't trade your temp for mine. Do hope you survive the eat wave.

® BF: Bear is good at these sorts of things. Plans, for hibernation.

® Paul: Bear has left me with all kinds of good things. There is even someone who comes and takes me for walks when the weather isn't too cold. When Bear makes a plan, it is very thorough.

® Diana: It's cool in "The Land of Lincoln"? Somehow, I thought it would be warmer there, but perhaps you're not quite as far south as I thought. As we say up here, "Be cool, but stay warm."

® Genie: All is well here. Bear stirs occasionally, but he hasn't touched any of his "snack," so he is still deep in hibernation. I'm resting very comfortably (as I mentioned to Paul), and check on his regularly. I trust he will feel much better when he rouses in the spring.

*waves* - how come you've been taken over by a poodle?? Is it because the bear is hibernating?? Must confess it makes me laugh when I see you, I mean her...jx

Miss Sadie...As the Bear continues to rest, give him my best. I wish you could send some of your cold winter weather our way....and we could send you some of the warmer weather we have.
Smiles from Jackie

miss sadie,

since you're calling the front desk, order room service while you're at it. a plate of hamburger for yourself and maybe something stronger for your master.......say a hot toddy?

stay warm my friends....

I think I'll take my wake-up call in mid-April. With room service.

Miss Sadie said...

® Exmoorjane: Nothing has been "taken over." I was asked by my master to "look after things" while he is hibernating. And if you keep laughing at me, I might come over and bite you on the other knee. A Lady can only take so much indignity!

® Jackie: Thank you for your kindness. But Bear likes it cold when he's hibernating. If it gets too warm, he'll perhaps try to turn on the air conditioning. Except there is no air conditioning. Which is why Bear often wakes up grouchy. (We don't want to go there!)

® amanda: I was not the one who called the front desk. That is Bear's story, and he's sticking to it. I simply pass on the information I am asked to share.

® RachelW: Mid-April would perhaps be appropriate for a wake-up call in the Yukon Territory. Or, potentially, mid-May? You know the area better than I do.
Also, you know what room-service arrangements you would like; perhaps it would be best for you to make them yourself.

If Bear has booked the room until mid March, why not?

Tattieweasle said...

Miss Sadie - there are times when hibernating just sounds so deliciously wonderful esp when there's a cold snap and all the elcticity is off and you've forgotten to bring the wood in for the fire...!!!!

Miss Sadie said...

® CW: I think Bear did that in his dream one night. But, hey, he's a thoroughly modern Bear, so why not?

® TW: I couldn't have put it better myself. Our electrical system is good, and the gas for heating is good, and we have an extra portable stove if the power goes off for a long time.
Still, there's something to be said for just ignoring the cold and dark of winter and sleeping through it all. (Strange, the number of people who share that sentiment.)

Amanda Summer said...

this is the front desk. we're calling to check on the bear and see if he needs anything. dial 1 for room service, dial 2 for housekeeping.
;-)

Miss Sadie said...

® amanda: Bear (captial "B") is appalled by those kinds of phone calls. Bear would not press 1 for room service, even if he were hungry, or 2 for housekeeping, even if the room were a total mess. He would slam down the phone in disgust, have a salmon snack and some hunny, and go back to sleep.
Yes, Bear is peculiar like that. He loves things new; not entirely a Luddite. But Bear cannot abide such insultingly impersonal phone calls.
How would Persephone feel if someone said she were a mere figment of someone's imagination in the past? You see what I mean?

yaya said...

Thanks for coming to my cold neck of the woods. Thanks also for you thoughtful comment. Your blog is a fun stop and I'll be back to check on you to make sure you don't over sleep into April and miss the melting snow!

Miss Sadie said...

® yaya: Thanks for coming to visit. I'll draw you comment to Bear's attention when he wakes up. I'll also try to make sure he welcomes you personally when he's awake. (His manners are sometimes a bit "off" when he first comes to consciousness, like a creature coming out of an anaesthetic.)

Amanda Summer said...

actually, the woman at the front desk is named persephone. she was worried about Bear. with a capital B. if she could, she would be happy to slide a plate of salmon and hunny under his door.

Posie said...

How lovely to hibernate until the spring...

Miss Sadie said...

® amanda: Well, if that's what Persephone wanted to do, why didn't she just say so? Why go on with this "press 1," and "press 2" nonsense?
Why can Humans not be straightforward in their communication like other creatures? I find this all so confusing and frustrating.
Perhaps you understand why I prefer Bear's company.

WOW. 28 comments just because you announce you want to sleep!

Bear, you have so many wake-up calls, aren't you lucky?

Miss Sadie said...

® dana: You are as puzzled about this as I am. Perhaps I struck some kind of nerve.
As Bear put it one time, "There is no accounting for the mental capacities of those who read this blog." I think he was trying to say that only really bright people would read what he writes (or what I write on his behalf).
I'm skeptical, but I would never contradict Bear. At least not on his blog.

® GW: When Bear wakes up, I'll draw all these notes to his attention.
I must confess this is a bit peculiar. Bear has never had so many comments! And comments on something I wrote on his behalf, no less. And something silly. Can you really visualize a Bear spending a winter in a motel room?
I think there must be a lot of people who love him, and/or who will (at least) put up with his atrocious silliness.
